Mynydd Caerau Round Cairns


Three round cairns (SS890942) in different stages of disrepair  near the top of Mynydd Caerau , Garw Valley . Four more Cairns  are on the summit north of the site  .








The East Cairn reduced to a small mound .

Middle Cairn , vandalised what's left is used as a sheep shelter .

Carn Mynydd Blaengwynfi




A few weeks ago during a cold spell. I braved the freezing conditions .Got the mountain bike out of the shed for another Cairn quest  . Mynydd Blaengwynfi (grid ref SS90659737)  


Cairn of unknown origin .OS Trig Point on the top .



 Grass covered  mound  . Large stones on

 the surface .

Mynydd Maendy Hill Fort









Iron Age  Hill Fort (SS95739551)

Maendy Camp is a  2 km uphill hike from the green gate near the bottom of the Bwlch mountain road on the Treorchy side  .
Fort interior is 100 m x 50 m divided into two oval sections *   
Site was first excavated 1901. Flint knives and pottery were recovered from inside a burial cairn . The cairn has since been destroyed . The outline and cist hole are all that remain .
