The Sleeping Giant Winter Solstice 21

It's been a long time since I rock and rolled it's been a long time since my last post . Last Tuesday was the 21st of December I went a small town called Craig-y-nos near the top of the Swansea valley near Dan-yr-Ogof caves . After parking and directions we set off on the 'Quarry Trail' , hiking up one side of Cribarth Mountain aka the 'Sleeping Giant'. The plan was to visit a seven stones alignment 'Saith Maen ', located on the upper slopes . Somewhere along the trail my phone died . Making it impossible to find the stone row on moorland pocked marked with sinkholes and limestone crags . We followed the track to the top to see what else the mountain has to offer .

Hollowed out mound of limestone rock located near a trig point making it very easy to find . .

Imbolc 2021

The first of February marks the day our pagan ancestors celebrated the arrival of spring . Imbolc meaning ‘in the womb’, took the form of fertility and propagation rituals in honour of the goddess Brigid .

Mynydd yr Eglwys

Mynydd Yr Eglwys is not from my house . I have hiked to the top numerous times . The steepest section is at the bottom once I get past a rocky out crop it plains sailing . Today the sun is out the sky is blue the air has a light chill . . Finding the cairn was easy . Knowing the area is half the battle

.The cairn (SS982963) 3m in diameter , which maybe a clearance cairn , overlooks the valley in green pasture not too far from the wind farm road . The outline of the cairn is visible under the grass .
