Mynydd Illtud Standing Stone
Mynydd Illtud Standing Stone (ref SN97602651)
Last post from the the day spent at Mynydd Illtyd in Brecon Beacons National Park . I know the area quite well there's no chance of us travelling down the wrong road . Half an hour after leaving the house we park opposite Castle Camlais which has been reduced to a large earth mound .The temperature had dropped to 4 degrees it doesn't feel like it . It's dry don't mind the cold . Mynydd Illtud Standing stone is a 2km's hike south east along Sarn Helen to Mynydd Illtyd Common .
Stone is positioned on a grassy path twenty metres from edge of the road . . Time period of when the stone was put it the ground is unknown .Roman boundary marker maybe ? Sarn Helen runs across Mynydd Illtud to the Roman fort of y Gaer .
Sarn Helen . Roman supply route .
