Cefn y Rhondda Cairns (grid ref SS99279629)
Hiked over to Cefn Y Rhondda to film five cairns . Cefn y Rhondda is the ridge that runs along the top of the mountains overlooking Rhondda Fach - Ferndale / Rhondda Fawr - Ystrad . Three of the Cairns are aligned . The first cairn is 150 metres approx west of the three aligned cairns that are situated at the bottom of the field . Another cairn is on other side of wall . This is the most impressive of the five .Returning to the field to view the cairns in alignment starting with the middle cairn (2) the best preserved of the three . The next cairn (1) is 20 metres away north . I can make out the 7 metre diameter outline on the ground and along the shallow bank . The hole where the cyst once was is also visible . The third cairn in the sequence is 60 metres south close to the boundry wall . This is in the worst condition of the three .
Check out the wall to see where all the stones disappeared to ..
