Blaen Camlais Standing Stones

Blaen Camlais Standing Stones (ref SN9560525889)

Three large standing stones set in a field very close to Castle Cwm Camlais  . One of the stones has collapsed and split down the middle . The beacons dominate the skyline to the west easy to pick out the sacred twin peaks of Pen y Fan and Corn Du south west from here .

My last visit here was a few years ago on a lovely summer's day a few mounds were covered in thick vegetation . I went back to Rhos Gwawr last week for a more thorough look of the site .Spring in the air . Sun threatened to break through a layer of fog .

Cwm Henwen Standing Stone

cwm henwen usk reservoir

A few weeks ago I spent the afternoon at  Usk Reservoir. Turned out to be the last day pre current lockdown . Fuck knows when I will be able to travel non essentially past the county line again. . After my visit to  Gwern - Wyddog  I made my way back down to the road walking north east . Cwm Henwen (SN82962929) about a mile away  . The stone is 1.5 metres high not unlike a boundary marker from a distance .On closer inspection I think it more likely to be the rump of a larger stone . The sacred twin peaks of Nant Du and Pen y Fan are in clear view looking north east .
